Tin whistle songs from the world of folk and
traditional music, free songs from America Ireland Scotland England and beyond all with sheet music. Many beginers have
problems reading the music notation on standard sheet music, the covered notes mean to place your fingers over the holes,
a +sign means to blow that little bit harder to reach the second octave or get the high notes, to play the sharpe notes half
cover the holes.
Cleaning Whistles. Here's a few tips for cleaning the mouth
piece of your tin or plastic whistle. Leave the plastic mouth piece in a glass of warm water with Milton sterilising fluid
over night and this will get rid of any bacteria and also make your whistle shiny as new.
Another tip is to leave the plastic part in hot water with some washing up liquid for an hour or so.

The above image is of Tommy Makem who along with John Sheehan from The Dubliners made playing the humble tin whistle
cool to play in folk music.

Rasping Sound From Whistle
Some tin/penny whistles create an unwanted sound called ''rasping'' , you will normally hear
this sound from a cheap whistle but this sound will also come from any tin whistle not played cleanly, this is caused by not
using a consistent blow on the mouthpiece or from not covering the holes with your fingers properly. This rasping sound will
also happen when saliva gets into the mouthpiece. As I say this will usually happen with the cheap whistles, if possible
get yourself a good plastic whistle and stay away from the cheaper ones
A Guide For Beginners
These song notes are only a guide for beginners, the best way of learning the tin whistle,
guitar, banjo or any instrument is by ear and going to pub sessions and listening to the musicians playing. The more practice
you put in, the greater result you get out, keep at it and don't loose heart. Start with an easy song like Michael Row Your Boat Ashore which is very simple for beginners before moving on to The Water Is Wide , them two should practised until they are of by heart.
Uilleann Pipes Music. The very same notes
are used when playing the uilleann pipes and the penny whistle. The notes are in the same position on both instruments
